CHLOE TICKNER

Chloe Tickner is a painter, printmaker and signwriter who has been visiting the island of Antigua since she was a small child. Her vibrant paintings are created using sign writing enamels with pencil outlines on wood. “ Being trained as a traditional signwriter has made me obsessed with trying to capture the bright, tactile gloss, seen on the slats of the chattle houses. I like to portray the Caribbean scenes in the bold, colourful way that I see them."

As well as painting she also enjoys various forms of printmaking. Her prints vary from the complex to the illustrative, transforming the Caribbean views into the colourful patterns she sees. “I get the inspiration for my prints when I see a captivating view in Antigua.  Often, I will see something like a shadow hit the side of the wall of a wooden house, or the colours in a beautiful sunset and I realise I have to capture that moment in layers of ink.
